What's This One About?

In this episode, Matt and Mike sit down with Yuri, a newcomer to development and Tech Twitter. Yuri recently started her programming journey after watching a single random YouTube video that showed up in her feed. Soon after starting her journey, Yuri took to Twitter to share her experiences, netting her a whopping 27.3k followers (as of writing this). The trio discusses Yuri's Twitter content, how she learns new topics, and much more!

Guest Introduction

This week we’ll be talking to Yuri, who after watching a youtube video decided to fully dive into learning how to code. After noticing that some things were not explained well she took it upon herself to fill that gap while learning the concepts herself. This paid off as she was able to gain over 25000 followers and make valuable connections on Twitter posting her content. In just two months she was able to land a job in the industry. We’ll talk about the challenges she faced and why it pays to learn through teaching.

Key Takeaways

  • Your perspective while learning is different and more in line with someone else that's also learning. This is why creating content and tutorials when you just learn something can be more valuable than a senior developer creating that same tutorial.
  • Building an online presence for self-taught developers can be a good alternative to the degree.
  • Explain a technical concept to a family member to get better at explaining
